Rachel Mackay is a designer and visual artist based in Sydney who works with visual storytelling across film, media, music, publications and exhibitions. Her work is based on narrative-driven concepts and an exploration of space, objects, matter and image making.
Having spent six years working in Copenhagen at Danish architecture and design studio Johannes Torpe Studios, Rachel embodies a multi-disciplinary and experimental approach. She works with creative direction, production design, set design, art direction, styling and photography across artistic, commercial and editorial projects. Her work embodies a visual interpretation of narratives with a focus on ephemeral spaces that communicate stories as spatialised, materialised and poeticised concepts.
Rachel is also a founding member of Sydney-based collective Studio Rain, a team who work collaboratively across art, design and architecture. The collective creates temporary installations and architectural projects with a focus on exploring more sustainable and connected ways of living.

"Every definite image in the mind is steeped and dyed in the free water that flows around it. With it goes the sense of its relations, near and remote, the dying echo of whence it came to us, the dawning sense of whither it is to lead. The significance, the value of the image, is all in this halo or penumbra that surrounds and escorts it."
