Rachel's visual art practice is both independent and collaborative. Her work merges painting, drawing and mixed-media techniques.
Rachel's work is an exploration of the relationships between nature, the body and the subconscious. She is interested in the staging, decontextualisation and documentation of the body as an expressive act as well as an embodied form; and in creating a dialogue between the visible and invisible aspects of human experience.
Rachel Mackay is a Sydney-based artist and designer working across visual art, film and installation.
Film & TV
Alongside her personal artistic practice, Rachel works in film and TV as a production designer and art director. She creates sets and scenography for music videos, short films and commercials. Grounded in the creation of visual narratives, she brings an artistic and sculptural approach to her work, which is informed by her art practice.
Rachel is also co-founder of Studio Rain, a Sydney-based collective who work at the intersection of art and architecture. The team create temporary installations and experimental architecture.
